New Crew

Hi everyone! I did get to speak with Susan at NHMS about who is going to be working at Jeff's souvenir rig. There is a new couple, Todd and Beth, who are doing a great job.

I did get to meet them (as well as Bryan, Susan, Jim and Debbie) and they're all very nice folks! So if you're going to the race, definitely stop by and say "Hi"! I have invited them to swing by and give us updates as far as where they will be located at each track. I'm sure Susan will let them know how to do this. So I will be keeping an eye out for any of their posts and put them up here as I get them.

Also, they've got the majority of their merchandise on sale! I picked up the twill jacket for $35 and a shirt for $5! RCR's online store doesn't have these discounts. So definitely make sure to get over to the rig.

To Gain Credibility…NASCAR Needs to Change their Penalty Perspective

NASCAR is consistently making changes. Some may say that is the only thing consistent about NASCAR. However, have they made enough changes to take into consideration their most recent changes? Changes breed more changes and for NASCAR changes are constantly evolving. In some cases, however, change requires a different perspective to understand the implications. AT&T Wins Again….Thanks to NASCAR and Nextel!

The more NASCAR and Nextel fight the issue…the more they lose and could lose long term! Their actions could produce the exact opposite of what they think they are trying to accomplish. As a fan, it makes one wonder just how much NASCAR is looking out for the best interests of their sport. Are they really acting on behalf of their fans, owners, drivers and every person employed within the NASCAR industry? I think I must be completely stupid. I have tried my best to figure it out. So could someone please explain it to me? The source of my confusion: How can having AT&T, Alltel or any other wireless company in NASCAR hurt Sprint/Nextel? I've listened to all the talk. I've read all the articles. My understanding is it all comes down to the fact Nextel paid millions of dollars to sponsor NASCAR. OK, I get that. But, how does AT&T or Alltel conflict with that. Read More...

Jeff Burton's No. 31 Chevy thundered down pit road as a spotter called to the pit crew over a two-way radio: "Five, four, three, RIGHT HERE!"

Men leaped over the wall, power tools buzzed - zzzzt, zzzzt, zzzzt.

Tracy Ramsey, Burton's tire specialist, reached into the pit and started grabbing hot tires as they came off the car.

Burton hard guy to roast

FONTANA, Calif. (AP)—Apparently it’s hard to roast Jeff Burton.

What was billed as a roast in honor of Burton’s 500th NASCAR Sprint Cup start turned into mostly a litany of respect for the senior driver at Richard Childress Racing.

“Like Dale Jarrett said, it’s hard to have a roast on Jeff because he is such an even-keeled type of person across the board, in competition and in everyday life,” teammate Kevin Harvick said Saturday at Auto Club Speedway. “He has brought a lot to our race team.”

Harvick said he and Matt Kenseth and some others did get Burton angry one day a while back by stealing his driving shoes and pretending to sell them on eBay. Read More...

Here’s to You, Jeff

To commemorate his 500th NASCAR Cup Series start, Burton will be honored at a roast on Sat., Aug. 30 at Auto Club Speedway. ESPN broadcaster Allen Bestwick will serve as the roastmaster, with team owner Richard Childress, fellow RCR drivers Kevin Harvick and Bowyer, ESPN broadcaster and recently retired Cup Series driver Dale Jarrett and AT&T’s director of national sponsorships Tim McGhee as roasters. The roast will begin at 11:15am in the driver’s meeting room, located in the infield between the Cup and Nationwide garages, and all media are invited to attend.

Jeff Burton Talks About Balancing Work with Family

Children have proven to be the great equalizer for Jeff Burton. While other, younger drivers on the NASCAR circuit may live for race day, Jeff says he lives for his family -- wife Kim, daughter Paige, 13, and son Harrison, 7. "What we do [in NASCAR] is exceptionally important from a business and professional standpoint, but how you interact with your children, community, family and friends is more important," Jeff says. "Early in my career, I was afraid to do anything else [besides race] because that might mean I wasn't focused...I've learned you can do both." Read More...

Burton gets ready for his 500th career start

In the blink of an eye, the years and races have come and gone for Jeff Burton.

"It seems like it anyway," he said shortly before qualifying for Saturday's Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The South Boston native could hardly believe that the Pepsi 500, this Sunday in Fontana, Calif., will be the 500th start of his 15-year Sprint Cup career. He made his first start at Loudon in 1993.
