So much for progress
by Dan Villeneuve
for JeffBurtonWorld.com

It seems that we have another textbook example of how history repeats itself. Yes, the Kurt Busch of old is back.  According to many, Busch and Tony Stewart were racing hard for several laps. Then on lap 271 as Busch attempted a pass on the bottom. Looking at the video, he appeared not to be clear and drifted up into Stewart's front quarter panel. This ended up causing Busch to spin and hit the wall. The Home Depot car suffered damage from the contact
as well. After the Penske #2 car came to rest at the bottom of the track, Kurt's radiator wasn't the only thing steaming.

AT&T, NASCAR, Nextel! Who is to blame for this mess?
By Sharon Burton
for JeffBurtonWorld.com

Just about everyone has an opinion about who to blame for the recent lawsuit filed by AT&T against NASCAR. Especially so, after the injunction decisions that support AT&T’s position, allowing them to display their name and logo on the RCR #31 car driven by Jeff Burton. Many within the NASCAR circle have pointed out how this suit will damage the future of the sport. They are indeed right about that! So who is to blame for this mess?

A tough pill to swallow.
By Dan Villeneuve
for JeffBurtonWorld.com

There was a time when I looked forward to a good old fashioned Richmond night race. This weekend started out much like in previous years. Qualifications were on while I was working and I was also following with NASCAR.com's Track Pass Leader Board. I was a little nervous given Jeff had pulled an early draw. However that didn't really concern me as it is a pretty well known fact that RCR has been focusing on race setup over qualification setup. The TV coverage went to commercial with Jeff to qualify in another couple attempts. Coming back from commercial I noticed that drivers who had slots after Jeff were on track and Jeff's time was nowhere to be found. Ruh-Roh Raggy!

Marbles Celebrity Theatre: An interview with Jeff Burton
By Jay Busbee

You'd be hard pressed to find a classier guy on the track than Jeff Burton. And he's not only universally liked and respected, he's tearing things up out on the asphalt, too, currently running third in the Chase points standings. Recently, Jeff spoke to the Marbles about his year, his career, and his future in politics. (Sadly, the interview was conducted before the infamous bird incident, but we can imagine that Jeff got a chuckle out of the whole thing. Tires, probably not so much.) Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome The Senator, Jeff Burton:

Jeff, thanks for joining us on the Marbles; let's start by talking about this year. You've got to be thrilled with how the season is going so far.

I'm happy, don't get me wrong, but we're not there yet. We're a good team, we're not a great team. There are so many things that we do every week to get prepared for the track, and while we're doing almost all of them as well as we can, there are a few that we still need to work on.

Burton says pressure to succeed is building with the summer heat
LOUDON, N.H. – Richard Childress Racing driver Jeff Burton says the dog days of the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule have begun. But the pressure is only going to intensify.

There are three more races before the series gets a week off, and then the schedule kicks into overdrive. After the break, the series has 17 races to close the season, including the run-up to the Chase For The NASCAR Sprint Cup, and the title-determining Chase itself.

As if finding success in Sprint Cup isn't hard enough, this time of year makes things more difficult.

Consistent Burton back in title contention
By MIKE HARRIS,
AP Auto Racing Writer

LOUDON, N.H. (AP) If consistency can still win a championship in NASCAR's Sprint Cup series, Jeff Burton is a serious contender to win his first title.

In 16 races this season, the Richard Childress Racing driver has one win, four top-fives, 10 top-10s and has not finished worse than 15th.

"I'm good with it, if it yields results," Burton said. "At the end of the day, though, our goal wasn't having an average finish of 8.9 or whatever. Our goal was to lead more laps than we did last year, to win more races than we did last year, to be solidly in the top 12 in points ... and, when the Chase starts, to be a real contender."

Still, it remains to be seen if consistency can get the job done.

Jeff Burton New Hampshire Chat
Jeff Burton, driver of the No. 31 LENOX Industrial Tools Impala SS, met with members of the media at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and discussed racing in New Hampshire this weekend, getting through to the break in July and much more.

WHAT IS YOUR OUTLOOK GOING INTO THIS WEEKEND? “We haven’t run as well here as we would like to. We’ve had a couple of good races here since I’ve been at RCR but nothing to the extent of success that we want to have. We’ve worked hard on this program, on the one-mile flat track program, Richmond, Phoenix, New Hampshire. We’ve put a lot of effort into it but we’ve yet to prove that we got what we need. We ran very well at Martinsville earlier in the year but we didn’t perform as well at Richmond and Phoenix and we would have liked to. We come here looking a little bit, searching a little bit, trying to find a way to be better and that’s what our goal is.”
